SAP regression testing · from ECC to S/4HANA
For an upgrade from ECC to S/4HANA, you replay the same business scenarios before and after, across SAP GUI, SAP Fiori and the APIs, then compare. SAPFX lets you write them once in Robot Framework and replay them changing only variables.
What should you replay after a conversion?
Not everything. The scenarios that are costly when they break, with a reference of the state before.
Choose the scenarios
By volume, financial weight, regulatory nature, the interfaces they cross and the amount of change expected on the process.
Keep a reference
The state before is the yardstick: documents created, balances, workflow states, reports. Without a reference, you see a difference without knowing which side it comes from.
Replay, then decide
The same scenario runs on the old and the new system. A person rules on each difference, with a reason: defect, intended change or test to adapt.
Four steps, with SAPFX
1. Write the scenario in business language
A readable Robot Framework test, versioned like code. Locators live in a resource layer, not in the test.
2. Prove the target
Each campaign starts by establishing the release and kernel of the target system (Get System Identity), so you never compare without knowing what you are comparing.
3. Replay changing only the variables
The same campaign was replayed on two releases: a product price read through three channels is validated 7/7 on release 754 and 7/7 on release 758.
4. Verify through an independent channel
What acts on screen is confirmed another way: 205 products counted in SE16 equal the OData $count; 19 orders shown by a launchpad tile equal the aggregate read by RFC.
Three channels, one test
SAP GUI, Fiori, APIs
SapEccLibrary for SAP GUI for Windows (ECC and S/4HANA), SapFioriLibrary for SAP Fiori and SAPUI5, SapApiLibrary for OData and RFC/BAPI. Open source, Apache 2.0, no license fee.
Take over CBTA scenarios
Standard maintenance for SAP Solution Manager 7.2, which carries CBTA, ends on December 31, 2027. Scenarios are rewritten in Robot Framework, with a migration guide from CBTA.
Know what to replay
Change impact analysis follows the objects touched by a transport through to the suites that run them. It ships in version 0.8.5 of the libraries, and a human always decides what is replayed.
What this page does not promise
- ✓No ECC to S/4HANA conversion has been run. The evidence comes from ABAP Platform 1909 and 2023 development systems, not from a conversion project.
- ✓SAPFX does not replace SAP's migration tools. It replays test scenarios; it converts neither a system nor data.
- ✓Rewriting is still work. AI Cabra can support you on quote or point you to partners.
Frequently asked questions
What should you replay after an S/4HANA conversion?
The scenarios that are costly when they break: volume, financial weight, regulatory obligations, interfaces, amount of change. You keep a reference of the state before and a person rules on each difference.
Can CBTA scenarios be reused?
They are rewritten in Robot Framework, in a text format you can version. A migration guide from CBTA comes with the libraries; rewriting is still work.
Does SAPFX test ECC and S/4HANA with the same tests?
SapEccLibrary drives SAP GUI for Windows on ECC as on S/4HANA. The same campaign was replayed on two releases changing only variables; no ECC to S/4HANA conversion has been run.
Is a license required?
No. The libraries are under the Apache 2.0 license, with no license to pay for. Support services are on quote.
